EVERYONE IS A PEDESTRIAN, SO LET'S WALK SAFELY

Picture this: At some point, we all are pedestrians. When you cross the street to go to your office or walk through a parking lot to get into the store, you are a pedestrian. Therefore, while driving or riding a vehicle, we should walk safely and watch path marking exit signs.

In this post, we will discuss the rights and duties of pedestrians can vary greatly depending on the situation. Therefore, it is important to get familiar with the rules and regulations of pedestrian laws.

So, let's get started!

  • LAW: Walk on the sidewalks or footpaths whenever they are available. If there is no footpath or sidewalks, you must walk on the left side of the road while facing the traffic.

  • TIP: Never consider that a driver sees you. Ensure eye contact with drivers as they reach you to ensure you are seen.

  • LAW: Motorists usually use pedestrians' footpaths or sideways to cross the street at marked and unmarked intersections, but the pedestrians must either be within the crosswalk or affirmatively.

  • TIP: Be visible always. Wear reflective clothes and materials. Apply reflective tape, or use a flashlight at night.

  • LAW: Pedestrians should not suddenly leave a curb or other walk or run into the path of a vehicle.

  • TIP: Always try to cross streets at crosswalks or intersections whenever possible.

  • TIP: Keep yourself alert at all times. Put all your electronic devices away so that you can keep yourself focused while walking on the road.

Tips for the Motorist

The duty of safety doesn't only depend on the pedestrian. As a motorist, it's always important for you to be aware of your surroundings.

  • Use extra caution while driving in low-visibility, such as nighttime or in bad weather conditions.
  • Do not pass your motorbike if other vehicles are stopped at a crosswalk. There are chances people may be crossing that road, and you can't see.
  • Slow down your speed and pay attention when approaching a crosswalk or turning.
